Gate panel rides an overhead I-beam on sealed rollers — no ground track to freeze up, fill with grit, or get plowed out. The right call for loading docks, container yards, and heavy industrial sites that can’t afford a gate that won’t open in February.
Cantilever slides are the industrial default for a reason — but overhead-track wins on heavy gates, very wide openings, and sites with covered structures already in place.
Cantilever counterbalance has limits. Overhead track carries the weight from above — rated for solid-steel and crash-rated panels that would buckle a cantilever frame.
40, 50, 60 ft openings where the cantilever counterbalance pocket would eat half the lot. Overhead track needs only the gate-panel length.
Sites already covered by a canopy, loading-dock overhang, or building frame — the track integrates into the existing structure instead of adding a new one.
Solid-panel anti-ram gates need overhead support. Cantilever doesn’t pair with the heavy panel weight and crash loading.
Substations, ports, and infrastructure where a ground track that fills with grit or freezes solid is a non-starter. Track stays above the weather.
A ground rail that heaves every spring can be swapped for an overhead beam on the existing posts — same opening, no more track to shovel. Why we replace bottom track gates →
Overhead track lives or dies on the structural side. The fabrication has to carry the gate weight forever — not the spec sheet weight, the actual loaded weight after years of ice, snow, and side load.
Heavy industrial. High security. Sites where a ground-level obstruction isn’t allowed and a counterbalance pocket isn’t available.
Trailer ingress, no surface obstruction, integrates with the dock canopy structure.
Heavy gate panels and 40+ ft openings. Overhead handles weight a cantilever can’t.
Anti-ram solid-panel gates on a high-security perimeter, with no ground track exposure.
Forklift and shunt-truck traffic where a slide pocket eats critical maneuvering space.
Sites where ground debris would jam a cantilever truck. Overhead track stays clean.
Anywhere a ground track freezing solid would mean a perimeter breach. Track stays above the weather line.
S Tier builds the whole perimeter, not just the fence. Fewer trades on site, one number to call when something needs attention.
LiftMaster CSL/SL slide operators, sized to the panel weight and cycle count.
Anti-climb mesh on the perimeter, panel-matched to the gate.
If the gate weight fits and the pocket exists, cantilever may quote cheaper. We’ll tell you which is right.
